Fabriano has been recognized by UNESCO as Creative City in 2013. The historic ancient traditions of painters, blacksmiths and master paper makers (Mastri chartai) of Fabriano are of great meaning and represent aa very old tradition and great savoir faire. The centuries have transformed these artisans into industrial craftsmen, especially in the paper sector. Fabriano is a dynamic handicraft centre, powered by its high-level education and promotional projects. Innovative initiatives allow all generations of craftsmen to meet, for example in the Shop-Workshop Centre, where everyone can rediscover traditional crafts and products of excellence.The growing ability of the increasingly numerous and qualified artisans in Fabriano allowed them to make a real leap in terms of quality. Three innovations in particular led to the rise of Fabriano as the cradle of modern papermaking.
