Meeting with the local guide at the Labyrinth of Franco Maria Ricci in Masone di Fontanellato. The labyrinth was inaugurated in June 2015, and it is the biggest in the world realized with 20 different kinds of bamboo.
The Museum near the labyrinth hosts the art collection of Franco Maria Ricci and in the same building, there is also the bibliotheque with all the publications by FMR. Transfer to Fontanellato, one of the most typical village of the province of Parma, dominated by the amazing Sanvitale’s Fortress surrounded by a water filled moat. In the rooms, are noteworthy pieces of furniture of 16th, 17th and 18th century, armors, Chinas, paintings by Schedoni, Boselli, Nuvoloni, Baldrighi. A small room frescoed by young Parmigianino for Paola Gonzaga and Galeazzo Sanvitale, is the real masterpiece inside the castle: it depicts Acteon’s metamorphosis, when he is turned into a deer after spying Diana and her maids during a bath. The room is rich of esoteric allusions and of stylistic innovations, making it one of the most interesting works of Italian Renaissance. On the third Sunday of every month, you can find some interesting pieces in the traditional and huge antiques market that take place in the streets and squares around the castle.
